Today at Sugarloaf

There is no doubt about it, today was one of the most beautiful days we’ve had here at Sugarloaf.  The sun was out, temps were cool, and aside from a little breeze at the top of the mountain the skiing and riding was excellent.  By the end of the day my legs were aching and my cheeks were chilled, but my ski down from the top of Timberline lift was nothing short of breathe-taking and a perfect run to call it a day on.

As my temporary state of what I like to call “blue-bird ski day euphoria” subsides, I can’t help but think back to what made this day so great.  Certainly great weather helps, but I also spent a lot of time watching Sugarloafers take to our newly opened half-pipe on Pipeline.  This 400’ long, 18’ high monster dwarfs most half-pipes simply with its shadow, and although I’m not one for aerials I took a run through just to get a feel for things.  I can tell you now that it will be a long time before I muster up enough courage to do that again.  Still, I highly encourage checking it out, it’s pretty impressive to say the least.

For tomorrow, conditions are looking a little warmer than today with temperatures expected to be in the high 20’s and 30’s depending on where you are on the mountain.  Snow surface conditions will be nice, with hard packed and loose granular surface snow.  It looks like the winds might pick up as the day goes on tomorrow, so make sure to check lift and status updates via Twitter by following us at SugarloafSnow.
